Some of you may be familiar with the cybersquatting phenomenon, like the case where a supposed fan of Pana, Illinois, registered www.panavision.com, dedicated to photography of that city … and then offered to sell the domain to Panavision International, a well-known camera equipment company.
I think a closely related phenomenon is when people register domains that are common typos of popular domains, in an attempt to obtain accidental traffic. An example might be www.hoogle.com. Google, however, owns www.gogle.com and www.goolge.com and redirects to itself. This is big business.
In any case, it appears that a cheap Colinfest imitation exists. Frankly, I’m flattered. I assume this guy is just trying to feed off of the success of www.colinfest.com. I mean, his name is Michael. Give me a break - Bolinfest? Well, on the off-chance that his website, www.bolinfest.com, obtains any independent traffic, I think I had better hurry up and purchase our shared typo domain, www.volinfest.com. Just a quick slip of the index-finger, and his would-be visitors will be directed to my site.
